Swayambunath: is the oldest stupa of the Katmandou valley. On the same site, you will find a Nepali style pagoda-temple and a "gompa"- a Lamaist monastery.

Bodnath: a Buddhist place of pilgrimage since the Vth century

Pashupatinath: cremations take place there like in Varanasi. One of the most famous Hindu places of pilgrimage.

Lumbini also called Rupendehi: birthplace of the Gautama Buddha as well as the place where was discovered Ashoka's column dating back to 249 BC bearing an inscription confirming the birth of the Buddha there in 560 BC.
